Antonio Pepiciello of IREC presented research on RESPONDENT’s Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) at SEST 2024, tackling key challenges in the Spanish power grid.

On September 10, 2024, Antonio Pepiciello, a researcher at RESPONDENT consortium partner IREC (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya) presented his paper titled “Multistage Optimal PMU Placement in the Spanish Power Grid” at the Smart Energy Systems and Technologies (SEST) conference. The conference, which took place from September 10-12 in Torino, Italy, is a notable event for professionals in the field of smart energy systems.

Antonio’s presentation was part of the “Control Centers and Operational Practices” session, and addressed topics related to the optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). This research falls under Work Package 5 of the RESPONDENT project, which focuses on Smart-Grid Galileo-based Synchronisation and Monitoring.

Reflecting on his experience at the conference, Antonio noted: “Presenting this study on PMU placement in the Spanish power grid at SEST 2024 was an excellent opportunity to share our findings with peers and engage in meaningful discussions. The interactions and feedback we received will be valuable as we continue to refine our work as we approach the RESPONDENT project’s pilot demonstrations.”

We look forward to sharing more about the work of our consortium, as well as our upcoming first pilot demonstration in Athens which will provide an opportunity to showcase the practical applications of our research and its impact on improving smart grid technologies.
